Abstract

In order to build robust applications that are able to perform well using object-oriented database technology, a range of factors must be considered. This paper examines some of the more important of these, such as scalability, method execution location, locking strategy and data integrity. It attempts to give general guidance to the designer, emphasising the importance of physical database design and integration with other database and distributed-object technologies.
