The changes in BT's market-place are creating more opportunities for BT, not less. Customers in all segments need help to use new-wave technology to implement solutions that will address their business or private-life needs. However, not all of these opportunities can be satisfied by the sale of standard products, nor can all customers afford bespoke solutions. The rewards will be large for those companies that can offer mass-customised solutions cost effectively. BT is transforming itself to rise to this opportunity. This paper outlines some of the ways that BT's engineering function is supporting this initiative. It recognises progress to date and gives a view of what the future might hold.
