Abstract

A fuzzy-neuro approach for the design of bang-bang controller ispresented in this paper. The approach has been used with success for thetime optimal bang-bang control of a heating system. The improved bang-bangcontroller suppresses the oscillations often observed at the output of anon-off controller. A fuzzy system is used for the implementation of theon-off control. An extension of the fuzzy control is provided by anequivalent neural network of the fuzzy system. A test application, that of ahouse heating with a two-state furnace, is developed and evaluated withstandard hysteresis switching, fuzzy control, and fuzzy-neuro control.
