Abstract

One of the main problems in GDMO is the lack ofadequate means to define the behavior of managedobjects. This paper reports the experiences that havebeen gained in the GDMO project, a joint project of Deutsche Telekom AG and the Institute forSoftware Technology, with formalizing actions andnotifications of a sample GDMO specification. It hasbeen investigated how different formal descriptiontechniques (FDTs), namely an object-oriented Z dialect andSDL, may be used to describe the semantics of actionsand notifications. However, the case study showed thatan integration of FDTs into GDMO is technically difficult and not very likely to improve theoverall quality of GDMO specifications.
