Abstract

The Java programming language has been projected as auniversal language for the development of distributed applications.Unfortunately, the project of such applications using Java is acomplex task, requiring the author to be a specialist in thislanguage. This paper presents MUSE, a graphical environment for theconception of interactive multimedia applications. The sophisticateduser interface of this environment and its new high-level authoringmodel allow the creation of complex applications in a fast andintuitive way. Due to the large expressiveness of the model, theauthor may create multimedia applications with logical and temporalinconsistencies. For this reason, the environment also allows theautomatic generation of E-LOTOS specifications, which can be used toanalyze and to verify the logical and temporal restrictions definedby the author. After obtaining the complete and correct descriptionof the multimedia application, the environment generates thecorresponding Java application.
