Abstract

This paper proposes a computationally efficient 2-D direction-of-arrival estimation method for the single source case. In this method, the array outputs are regarded as the pixel values and then transformed into the Zernike moments (ZMs). The rotation-invariant feature of ZMs allows us to estimate azimuth angles independently of elevation angles, without performing the eigenvalue decomposition. Obtained the azimuth estimate, the elevation angle is estimated by applying the MUSIC technique to the Correlation matrix of the ZM Vector that is smaller than that of the original array input vector. Therefore the computational complexity of the eigenvalue decomposition and the sweeping operation can be reduced. Several simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
