Abstract

A two-phase fractal image sequence compression system isproposed. In the classification phase, according to the textureattribution a testing solid image block is assigned to itscorresponding texture class. The texture attribution is derived fromthe tomographic block projection classification for the finiteprojection directions at the three-dimensional (3D) space. In theadaptive coding phase, both the algorithm of the 3D projectionclassification and the 3D variable shape decomposition areincorporated into the variable shape block transformation for imagesequence. By applying this variable shape block transformationalgorithm to fractal image sequence coding scheme, we can obtain apromising performance.
