Abstract

We present a new algorithm that uses the JPEG compression format and provides a significant improvement in contour extraction for medical imaging, suc as X-ray photos. The algorithm searches for an object's contour in the compressed file. The complexity is reduced to O(n) in the case of a high resolution picture, which is better than the state-of-the-art for contour extraction.
