The theoretical analysis andsimulation of the performance of a matched filter codeacquisition structure with a median filter as theaiding device to cancel CW jamming in the AWGN channelis described. Both coherent and noncoherent structuresare considered. As performance measures, theprobability of detection and of a false alarm and meanacquisition times are used. Two kinds of analysis forcoherent acquisition structure are presented. Atfirst, the approximation for the pdf of theinput signal to the comparator is used. Next, theprobabilities are calculated directly. This is calledthe direct form. For the analysis of noncoherentacquisition, the pdf approximation of thecoherent case is used. The performance of the medianfilter structure is compared to the performance of asimple linear interference cancellation method. Theeffect of CW jamming can be eliminated by bothmethods. Fixed thresholds of the comparator and theconstant false alarm probability (CFAR) criteria areused. It is concluded that the median filter has abetter performance, especially when fixed thresholdsare used.
