Abstract

Four simple algorithms to track the slowly varying channel state conditionsin a mobile radio environment are examined. These indirect channel stateestimators can be used for link adaptation in two-way radio communications. As an application background, the performance of stop-and-wait andselective-repeat automatic repeat-request schemes with adaptive packet lengthare investigated. Numerical results reveal that the proposed slidingobservation interval algorithm with weighted success and error errors canprovide a reliable channel state information within only a few blocktransmissions, and require the shortest observation interval among the fourschemes.
