Abstract

The development of biomedical imaging has revolutionized the practice of medicine and the delivery of care. The next wave of change, however, will derive from the merging of medical imaging with multimedia technology. In this article, we present the information infrastructure and requirements for this new evolving field. We describe four different types of clinical applications to illustrate the use and versatility of networked multimedia systems for image-assisted medical care.
