Abstract

The authors outline an ambitious new research and development program whose purpose is the high-fidelity, whole-system simulation of solid-propellant rocket motors. Modeling and simulation of these complex, multicomponent systems involves numerous disciplines, including structural and fracture mechanics, fluid dynamics, combustion, and computer science. The authors describe their research efforts in component modeling, system integration, and computer science, as well as planned validation exercises.
