Abstract

Very large networks such as the Internet exhibit many puzzling dynamic behaviors: fractal trac patterns, congestion storms, and unforeseen consequences of new "killer applications" such as Web browsers. This article shows how a new scalable modeling framework (SSF) and scalable parallel simulations make it possible to analyze the detailed behavior of multi-domain, multi-protocol models of the Internet with hundreds of thousands of hosts and routers.
