Building physical models of natural objects such as parts of the human skeleton is essentially a reverse engineering process, starting with large volumes of 3D data acquired with medical imaging technologies. Regarding the considerable complexity of natural objects, interactive pre-processing of 3D data prior to production of hard copies is of central significance. Two applications demonstrate how graphics tools can help to exploit fully the potential of producing stereolithographic models in biosciences.
