Fast implementations of fuzzy rule based systems on general purpose processors are required during the simulation and optimization of fuzzy systems with neural networks or genetic algorithms. In this paper we present several adapted concepts for the implementation of FRBS on general purpose processors on the basis of a precise analysis of the fuzzy algorithm. These concepts are based on look-up tables, optimized rule processing and digital pulse-duration modulation. Using these concepts, general purpose processors can procduce solutions quicker than the second generation of special fuzzy processors could.
