Abstract

This paper describes the reengineering of a Sandia National Laboratories legacy system for managing engineering drawings/documentation that has evolved over the past 30 years. The approach used natural language information modeling and a 4GL language to understand, reengineer, and reimplement the system and interface it with other current and legacy systems, such as: a system which manages the assembly of serialized parts; and an optical storage system that is an on-line library of released graphical drawings, standards, documents, and procedures.
