The World Wide Web-whether Internet, intranet, or extranet- has become a key element of post-industrial society. The author contends that the convergence of Web and OO technologies will provide the ability to use new or legacy code on distant machines to build distributed, three-tier client-server applications. These applications will transcend conventional boundaries of platform, organizational function, enterprise, industry, and geography to leverage the power of distributed computing.
