Abstract

Predicatable, dependable, and efficient systems are essential in real-time environments. The Automated Reasoning group at the Honeywell Technology Center is developing adaptive intelligent software for high-risk situations. The authors are building a system called Self-Adaptive CIRCA (based on their cooperative intelligent real-time control architecture model) that combines the assurance of hard real-time systems with the self-modeling, self-monitoring, and self-modifying capabilities of self-adaptive software. SA-CIRCA provides a control framework for next-generation autonomous systems operating in demanding and risky environments.
