Abstract

Veristic variables are variables that can assume multiple values such as the languages a person speaks. Different types of statements providing information about veristic variables are described. A methodology for representing and manipulating veristic information within the fuzzy set based theory of approximate reasoning is presented. We then turn to the role of these types of variables in databases. We consider methods for representing and evaluating queries involving veristic variables. Methodologies are presented for various types of queries.
