In this paper we address protocol animation in design and in operation from different points of view. These views are chosen according to the abstraction level (application view, communication view), the granularity (overview, details), and the system structure (process view, collaboration view). All views are supported by flexible tools. As design language, we have applied SDL in conjunction with MSC. The results are illustrated in the context of a comprehensive case study, where the distributed light control system of a building model has been developed from scratch.
