Abstract

The key concept of a process in a multi-program, multi-processor operating system is examined in detail to highlight areas where appropriate hardware support can yield benefits. A sketch of one architecture providing appropriate support is given in sufficient detail to illustrate its flexibility and its low time and space overhead.
