We prove that if X is a finite code and s is an infinite word with 3 X-factorizations, then the rank r(X) of X is at most |X| - 2. More generally, if X belongs to a certain family of codes and s has l ≥ 2 X-factorizations, then the rank is at most |X| - l+ 1.
