This paper describes the acquisition and management of the Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) and Open Source software components. The paper focuses on approaches to organize the relationship between a large global company and small software vendors on telecommunications area. The large company integrates both in-house and externally developed components into products and deliveries the products to end customers. Long-lasting and deep partnership relation between the component integrator and vendor is needed to reduce the efforts and time spent on the commercial negotiations. The paper is based on information gathered during last ten months. In addition to literature study, several detailed interviews have been held among people working for the component integrator.
