Abstract

Most software-focused improvement efforts, including OMG's recent Model Driven Architecture initiative, stop short of addressing the challenging knowledge-level integration and interoperability issues organizations will be faced with in the emerging knowledge society. In this keynote, an extended view of model-driven is presented. Knowledge models and modeling activities are envisioned to drive future organizational development and business operations in real time, encompassing and integrating activities at all levels, from top management to the floor. A new breed of powerful and flexible enablers will be required to capture, represent, and bring knowledge to life in visual models and operational work solutions. Several real-world cases already demonstrate the benefits of this holistic model-driven approach to business planning and operations, with resulting dramatic productivity gains and unsurpassed alignment of IT and business.
