Abstract

The telephone network could be called the world's first distributed object computer system. The high reliability, availability and capacity requirements of the telephone network have force the telecommunications industry to solve a number of key challenges. This paper discusses the applicability of these solutions to other areas of distributed object computing using the concept of "design patterns" as a way of describing how these problems are solved.
