Some early results from an ongoing design representation technology survey and assessment are presented. The objectives were to provide a context for the evaluation of alternatives for representation of software design information and to serve as a catalyst for further research in the area. The scope of the problem and the survey approach are described. A rough 'technology map' of the design representation 'terrain' that resulted from the survey is discussed, along with some observations derived from the survey.
