We describe ANCORS, an architecture for the design, configuration, and management of adaptable networks. We describe the primary components of the architecture and their common system management infrastructure. We describe alternative techniques that can be used for the management of adaptable networks and discuss their relative strengths. We then propose an open and extensible management framework for adapting the management infrastructure to newly deployed network services. We exemplify the use of this framework by outlining four different representative management applications.
