Recent advances in networking, storage, and computer technologies are stimulating the development of multimedia and distributed applications. In this paper, we propose a synchronization protocol for multiple stored multimedia streams in a multicast group. The proposed method consists of intra-stream, inter-stream and inter-receiver synchronization mechanisms. The scheme is very general because it only makes a single assumption, namely that the jitter is bounded. The protocol can be used in the absence of globally synchronized clocks without time stamped media units. Verification and simulation results which we carried out show that streams synchronization is maintained. Moreover, group synchronization is respected.
