Abstract

This paper describes the development of a toolset that supports the specification and design of large real time systems. The starting point is the evolution of a method suitable for use in practical environments; for example in the specification of telecommunication systems. The characteristics that are required of a good specification method for real time systems are discussed and a method based upon the CCITT SDL notation is described which aims to satisfy these characteristics. The component parts in the toolset to support this method are described.
