An object algebra that can be used for supporting the ODMG standard is formally defined. The algebra is represented by a number of special forms of expressions serving for querying the current database state. Quantification, mapping, selection, unnesting, and partitioning expressions are defined in a way that does not violate the first-order nature of the algebra.
