In this paper, we propose a new handoff scheme, which is designed to efficiently carry out handoffs in TDMA/FDMA-based cellular networks. The new handoff scheme is based on conventional handoff methods, which include the channel reservation, carrying and sub-rating methods to assign channels for handoffs. We evaluated the proposed handoff scheme using Markov chain with a two-cell model. The analytical results indicate that the proposed handoff scheme may offer better performance than the conventional handoff schemes in terms of the handoff blocking probability.
