Federation is a self-organizing mechanism of socio-economic systems. Enterprise federation is an agile and self-organizing network of partner enterprises, which is capable of unifying two opposite ends in current societies and technologies, i.e. more and more complex product developments versus more and more specialized and miniaturized enterprises. This chapter makes thorough investigation into life-cycle organization of enterprise federation. First, a distinctive taxonomy of enterprise partnerships is presented. Then, concept and metrics of enterprise federation are put forward. Third, blueprints for creation, configuration, operation and dissolution of enterprise federation are specified. Fourth, multi-agent modelization is explored for enterprise federation. Fifth, case studies are presented based on global trends in trades and businesses to illustrate practices of enterprise federation. Finally, features of enterprise federation are summarized.
