Abstract

This paper describes an experiment we are conducting in an industrial setting concerning the introduction of use cases inside the software process with the goal to enhance the process in its very early phases. The process improvement action, named PIUC, is being conducted inside an Italian software development company named Thera S.p.A, and it is a best practice action the firm decided to undertake with the objective to better capture and formalize evolving customer expectations and requirements. In this paper we describe the work performed until now (the experiment will finish at the end of the year) and we present some quantitative data collected during the project and a preliminary qualitative evaluation of the project, highlighting the positive aspects we observed and some reflections about the impact of use cases.
