Abstract

This paper describes some applications of the recently introduced Intelligent Localized Fusion (ILF) paradigm in multisensorial computer vision systems. The paradigm is based on a new interpretation of the fuzzy integral as fusion operator in image processing and thus related to Soft-Computing methodologies. The application of the paradigm for color edge detection in outdoor scenes and for preprocessing in automated visual inspection of high reflective materials is described. While in the first application the usage of the paradigm allows the avoidance of false edges caused by shadows, it succeeds suppressing the annoying highlights in the second one.
