Abstract

Insufficient performance characteristics of database-based integrated information systems, which are typically used within a business environment, can lead to extensive costs. Performance engineering assures the development of information systems with defined performance characteristics. These characteristics can be defined as requirements with the help of performance service levels. They are fixed in a service level agreement, which is the basis of negotiations between customers, users and developers.
