An overview on emerging IP traffic monitoring is presented. Impotant parameters to characterize the traffic, network and QoS, are discussed. The infrastructure and methodology to measure those parameters directly or to compute them based on other measurements are described. We also, present a discourse on coping with the challenge of new transport architectures and technologies. In summary, a framework of IP traffic monitoring is presented.
