Abstract

Multimedia-based training management has been challenged for its administrative efficiency in managing the training process. The problem could arise from the system design and development that often focuses on the functional deployment instead of the process redeign. This article proposes a process improvement approach by applying process flowcharting and value analysis techniques. This approach first analyzes and diagnoses specific tasks occuring in the entire traning management process. Unnecessary tasks were then integrated, redesigned or eliminated so that the restructured process can be more simple, flexible and at a low cost. The design of the MTI multimedia-based training management system is described for illustration. Results of the system performance evaluation showed that the amount of in-house training management works have been reduced and the entire proces has been condensed into one fourth of the original cycle time.
