In the field of content-based visual information, detection of visual features is a significant topic. In order to process video data efficiently, visual features extraction is required. Many of the advanced video applications require manipulations of compressed video data. In this paper, an effective approach that detects global motion in MPEG compressed images is proposed. First, the moving background of the current frame is extracted using predictive error dcimage. Second, a new global motion detecting method based on a 6-parameters camera motion analysis is proposed in this paper. In the evaluation experiments, several video test sequences are used to test the proposed algorithm, and compared with an existing method. The experimental results show the efficiency and robustness of our algorithm in the global motion estimation.
