We propose a new geometric synchronization method for watermarking. The Significant Most Significant Bit (SMSB) plane is used as the synchronization object. The SMSB of an image is easy to obtain, either in the spatial domain or in the DWT domain, particularly in several image compression techniques, such as SPIHT and JPEG2000. SMSB can be used to represent the feature of the image by its eigen vectors and values with calculating its covariance matrix. In the receiving end, the attacks such as rotation, scaling, translation, and flipping can be detected by comparing the geometric parameters obtained from the sender and calculated from the received image. The simulation results show that the proposed method can successfully re-synchronize the attacked image back to the original format.
