We have developed a real-time Java1 server on the Real-Time Mach micro-kernel which is suitable for embedded systems and distributed real-time systems. By implementing it as a user-level server on Real-Time Mach, applications such as WWW browsers and embedded applications can both execute Java byte codes. In this paper, we describe the real-time issues in Java and the architecture of our Java server. The real-time extension of the Java server and Java threads using kernel-level threads was also evaluated.
