Abstract

Data mining is the extraction of implicit, previously unknown, and potentially useful information from data. Advances in information technology and data collection methods have led to the availability of large data sets in commercial enterprises and in a wide variety of scientific and engineering disciplines. We have an unprecedented opportunity to analyze this data and extract intelligent and useful information. Traditionally, machine learning is a part of the Artificial Intelligence course. Up to now, not many colleges are offering specialized courses in data mining. In this paper, we present our experience at teaching our first experimental course in data mining.
