Abstract

Parallel computing is an interesting and important topic that spans several different areas of the computer science curriculum, such as networking, architecture and programming. With the proliferation of open-source software and the availability of inexpensive computer components, it has now become feasible for small colleges and non-research institutions to create parallel computing platforms. In this article we describe the construction of a dedicated computing cluster and the educational benefits obtained by doing so.
