Abstract

This paper introduces a course that may serve as a prerequisite for the CS Computer Architecture course. The paper describes an introductory laboratory course in digital electronics that is currently taught in an engineering-based department. The paper also presents and discusses a procedure that may be incorporated in computer science programs, electronics programs, or any program that offers courses with laboratory instructions.Upon successful completion of this course students are able to clearly conceptualize basic digital systems. The practical hands-on experience of this course increases students' interest and provides a solid foundation for student employment after graduation.
