Abstract

Multidimensional databases provide the conceptual framework and data model for enabling online analytical processing (OLAP). OLAP provides the technology to do ad hoc analysis of data stored in data warehouses. In this article, we introduce the multidimensional data model and its operators, and discuss implementation of OLAP over relational backend systems.
