Running an organizational-wide reliable data warehouse requires a huge administration effort. This article outlines data warehouse-specific administrational issues from the two perspectives of administration roles and administration tasks. The roles of a data administrator, application administrator, and systems administrator are identified and outlined in the first part. Subsequently, different administrational tasks, such as activities from data acquisition to publication, are described and assigned to one or more administrational roles. This article stresses the fact that the task of data administration in the context of a data warehouse is of high complexity and embraces a mixture of technical system administration tasks and of administrational tasks in new areas, such as quality assurance and security.
