Abstract

An overview of the use of knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) in the U.K. insurance business is presented. Applications in pricing and marketing are discussed together with the corresponding effectiveness of various data mining algorithms. Rule induction using modern heuristic techniques is seen to be most effective, and a case study in customer profiling is described.
