LOCK is an advanced development of hardware-basedcomputer security and crypto-graphic service modules.Much of the design and some of the implementation specificationsare complete. The Formal Top Level Specification(FTLS) also is complete and the advanced noninterferenceproofs are beginning. This hardware-based approachhas brought the LOCK project into many unchartedareas in the design, verification, and evaluationof an integrated information security system. System integrationpromises to be the single largest programmaticproblem. Our verification tools seem able to verify designonly and not implementation.
