Abstract

The industry-wide demand for rapid development in concertwith greater process maturity has seen many softwaredevelopment firms adopt tightly structured iterative processes. While a number of commercial vendors offer suitableprocess infrastructure and tool support, the cost of licensing, configuration and staff training may be prohibitivefor the Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) whichdominate the Asia-Pacific software industry. This work addressesthese problems through the introduction of the RealWorld Software Process (RWSP), a freely available, web-basediterative scheme designed specifically for small teamsand organisations. RWSP provides a detailed process description, high quality document templates - including codereview and inspection guidelines - and the integrated tutorialsupport necessary for successful usage by inexperienceddevelopers and teams. In particular, it is intendedthat the process be readily usable by software houses whichat present do not follow a formal process, and that the freeRWSP process infrastructure should be a vehicle for improvingindustry standards.
