Abstract

The authors present a new approach to discover the associations between the access sequences, which is the sequence association rule discovery. In this approach, first we mine the Log in the Web server to get the user access transactions, and then according to the regular grammar we define the new user access transaction grammar in order to get the user sequence access transactions from the user access transactions. Subsequently, we employ the association rule discovery algorithm to discover the sequence association rules. To evaluate these kinds of rules, we propose the mutual information. The results of this approach can help the designer of the Web site to understand the user access patterns better and according to the results the designer can adjust the structure of the Web site.
