This paper presents a case for an intelligent agent based framework for knowledgediscovery in a distributed healthcare environment co prising ultiple heterogeneoushealthcare data repositories.Data-ediated knowledge discovery, especially from ultipleheterogeneous data resources,is a tedious process and imposes significant operationalconstraints on end-users.We de onstrate that autonomous, reactive and proactive intelligentagents provide an opportunity to generate end-user oriented,packaged,value-added decision-support/strategic planning services for healthcare professionals and managers. We proposethe use intelligent agents to i ple ent a distributed Agent based Data Mining Infostructurethat provides a suite of healthcare-oriented decision-support/strategic planning services.
